Had an absolutely perfect day for this hike with the boy. Our first above 5000' and just one peak away from our goal for the yr. Little over 10 miles done in 8 hrs. Our next one will have us atop the big one. :)

You packin enough gear? I understand those mtn's are notorious for having sudden and sometimes violent weather changes....

Yes indeed, hike the presidential range many times as a teenager spent my
summers in Lincoln at my uncles. Kingsman Ridge trail from Lost River to Cannon
mountain is a beauty. Coming down Cannon is a workout, hard on the knees downhill
sometimes is worse than up. :D lol

BTW that is a minimum of a two day hike, three is better. ps

More Info http://home.earthlink.net/~ellozy/kinsman.html

ETA the link does not provide the access from Lost River check the AMC
maps it's there we use this route because it is longer but steep right from the
beginning before you catch your wind. Take slow till your metabolism catches up.

Compared to a Lot of other we see, we're packing very light. 4-5 bottles of water, snacks, lunch and an extra shirt. It cooled of at the top when the clouds engulfed us but still 60's. I check the weather ahead and plan accordingly. Be a couple weekends before we make the big summit. 8)

@ powder smoke - down is not fun. LoL The rock field took care of my knee this time. Argh! Gotta push through though. Cannon Mt looks like an interesting short climb we might have to look into. Next yr we're gonna go for Katahdin - wanna do Knife Edge. 8)

Great memory to hold on to. :) Might be a Sunday hike on Washington (no recoup day) LoL But gotta get it done for me dad. He claimed it a few times as a kid so be cool for me, and satisfying to both of us to have my son and I do it now.
Katahadin in '17 is our goal and already looking at tackling VT's peak although not a high one. 8)
