I read somewhere that someone, possibly Ruger began installing
titanium inserts into the feed ramp / throat area of their 1911s.
Mine has something that looks a great deal as if such a thing is
there but since I lack the owner's manual and the Ruger website
seems to lack specifics on this issue, does anyone know definitively
that it is or isn't Ruger. I'd post some pictures of mine but right
now, the camera is down for the count, thanks in advance.
This modification to the 1911 overall design does in theory make
sense since Ruger's SR1911 has a few deviations from JMB's
original design, (non staked plunger tubes, titanium firing pins,
Novak sights, beavertail grip safeties, I just don't know if I'm
delusional about the ramp inserts or was hallucinating.)

I think the titanium feed ramp insert is only in the sr1911 lightweight commander style aluminum frame. I'm sure someone will chime in that knows more about this than I do.

That's my understanding as well. It's to prevent damage to the aluminum frames feed ramp. My LWT CMD SR1911 has the titanium insert.

Thanks for the clarification folks, that makes perfect sense when examined.
My SR1911 Commander is the all steel model so likely as not it doesn't need
the insert, I think I need to get a better look at mine in daylight, what I
mistook for an insert might just be an optical illusion.

Mine is the lightweight commander and it has one. It's very well done and polished. If they didn't do this, they would need a ramped barrel, otherwise the aluminum frame would be beaten out of shape pretty fast.

My lightweight SR1911-CMD from 2015 has a Titanium insert. Not sure if this is needed or Ruger is reminding everyone they know how to work with Titanium.

And the insert......

Mine also has the front of the frame in the grip area grooved but I think Ruger stopped doing that after some time.

Aluminum frame 1911s suffer from two maladies. First, some JHP bullets eat up the frame's feed ramp. Second, steel magazine followers, after feeding the last round in the mag, tend to impact the feed ramp. This can cause serious damage, in time, to an aluminum 1911. EGW makes a steel feed ramp insert for repairing this; Ruger chose to install the titanium insert from the get go.

ETA: Caspian also offers a steel insert on their aluminum 1911 frames.
