I think I got a random set of magazines with it instead of the two 7 rounders
in stainless that the Ruger web site says come with that model. One of the
ones I received is a stainless with a floorplate that indicates its made by
ProMag and accepts 8 rounds and the other one appears to be a ProMag
since its floorplate looks identical to the stainless one
but it lacks the ProMag imprint that the stainless one has and it only accepts
7 rounds. So my question is, does ProMag make the Ruger SR1911 magazines
or does Ruger itself? I've looked at the ProMag website and it didn't seem
to offer a clear answer; for anyone who knows the answer, your help will
be much appreciated. Since the provenance of the two magazines I got
with the SR1911 is questionable as to total round count, etc., I have
acquired a pair of Chip McCormick Stainless 8 round Power Mags as my
EDC.

I've always been told Mec-Gar makes them for Ruger.

My Commander is a 9mm and I bought a couple of Mec-Gar mags at the local store for it. They work great as it seems all "regular" mags do in 1911's.

Thanks, I think that these two I got with the gun are definitely ProMag made,
one's floorplate is imprinted ProMag and the other has an identical floorplate
just without the ProMag imprint, otherwise they are identical.

Ruger uses magazines from several suppliers. Costs change, so it's a safe bet the ones they buy are from lowest-cost bidders.
The SR1911 guns are not strictly MIL-spec, but it is pretty rare to find (good-quality) magazines that will not work.
Prescott actually test-fires each gun with the mags included in the package. There is no conspiracy...

Thanks for the reply Mojavesam, I realize that the SR1911 series is not strictly
speaking 100% milspec but I think that where they vary its actually an improvement
in several ways, the machined in plunger tube for example won't come loose as
one staked in place can, I've had a Colt Series 70 do that on me and it locked the
entire pistol up until I could get it to my gunsmith. Also the loaded chamber
indicator is something that I find really useful.
