Since I have a 9mm 1911 and a 38 Super 1911 I have switched to 38 super mags for both. They have worked fine.
Has anyone else tried this?

Don't know, but I will try it out at the range next time I go out there.

Tried them, no problem. Now I have twice as many mags for
both pistols. My R1911 loved the Super .38 mags. And
Vice Versa. ( which reminds me of an old joke I heard in the Navy).
Don't ask.

That 9mm looks interesting but I do not have it yet. Ruger uses a ramped barrel in that as I recall, so 38 Super (9x23SR) mags might work O.K. I generally use 9mm (9x19) mags in my 1911s in 9mm Luger. The mags do have the spacer in the back. Have not bought a Ruger SR1911 variant in 9mm yet so have not looked at the mags. Below bullets in 9mm (9x19), 38 Super (9x23SR), 45ACP, and on the right 10mm (10x25).

I fitted an Ed Brown 9mm bbl to my recently purchased Colt 38 Super. My 9mm magazines (both Ruger & Tripp Cobra) won't function reliably, but the "Super" mags that came with the gun function flawlessly. Haven't tried them in Ruger 9mm LW CMD as it currently wears a Nelson Custom .22 conversion.

Paul105, you might try your 9mm and .38 Super uppers on the Ruger, they may function just fine. Both my Colt Combat Commander and later Ruger CMD .45's will function and fire just fine with Colt Series 70 vintage Combat Commander slides/barrels in .38 Super and 9mm.

I bought them both off Shotgun News 30+ years ago with the conversion in mind. It's been a long time now, but IIRC, I had to change out the ejector only, to get them to function. When switching back to .45, I leave the 9mm/Super ejector in place with no problems. After buying the Ruger CMD in .45, I found that it too would run with any of the slides/barrels. Both guns, I found were most accurate with the Super/slide barrel in place. Too, I've got a Marvel 5" and Ciener 4-1/4" slide/barrel in .22LR that work well in them.

Best Regards, Rod

Rod, thanks for the info. My Colt 38 Super is a full size 1911. My 45 LW CMD is causing me all kinds of grief (sights, not function) and for whatever reason I don't/can't shoot it worth a darn and will go down the road shortly. The 9mm LW CMD will likely never see 9mm again, as its the perfect lower for the Nelson upper.
