Along with the officers model, there is a 5" target model in 9mm. It is #6759. Bob!! :D

Same heavy bushingless bull barrel as the 10mm.

This whole thing is kinda weird. The picture of the 9mm Target Model looks as though the ugly chevrons have been photoshopped onto the picture of the .45 Target Model.

Bottom line is that it's a good addition to the SR1911 lineup. A friend at the range recently bought the Colt Competition 9mm. He likes it, but if the Ruger has been out, he may have bought one.

I've never quite bought into the 9mm 1911 concept. If I want a 9mm, I either want it notably smaller than a 1911, or I want it to hold a lot more rounds than a 1911. :?

I hear ya Snake...hence my affinity for the High Power. It may not be "notably smaller" than my 1911A-1, but it IS slimmer/trimmer, better balanced, uses the same (familiar) controls...and in my view, is more appropriately-sized for the 9MM cartridge.
Plus...the fact that both of mine shoot like a laser doesn't hurt anything either. No special "target model", special barrels, or adjustable sights needed...mostly just 'point and press'.   .

I have and love a P35, but mine's semi-permanently converted to a .22 (it's ONLY been a .22 since the unit became available a decade or more ago). Great guns!

As far as 9s go, I still have yet to find anything I like any better than the third-gen Smiths. I have a 5906 I got a great deal on, and would snap up a 5904 or even a 3904 at a good price in a hot second. I also have an original 59 and the difference between the first and third gens are like different guns completely.

Doublestack? If so, it's not a real 1911. And it's too big for my hand. Don't have to hold it to know, because a real 1911 is right at my outer limit.

I recently started a discussion on this very issue on a forum somewhere. It seems that 9mm is getting very popular for 1911 pistols. While I can't say I feel strongly about it, I do tend to agree with your statement. I probably will never own a 9mm 1911. I just don't see the point. Those of you out there who ARE into them? Go right on ahead. I got nothing at all against it.

Well, I'm not a 1911 guy and never owned one until Ruger brought out theirs. It's a nice gun but more often than not when I want to shoot 45ACP I reach for the Sig P220.

Then about a year ago I wandered into a LGS and sitting there was a LNIB 9mm Ruger Lightweight Commander ...... for $500.00!

Now more often than not, it is my go-to 9mm come range day.

That's like saying an AR15 in any other chamber than a 5.56x45 is not right.
Or a revolver in anything but 38 Special is not right.

Any gun is just a platform for firing a cartridge. As long as it functions properly, the cartridge matters not.

Well, actually, it's not.

I never understood a 1911 in 9mm. Until I wanted to shoot my favorite gun design more & the 45 was beginning to be uncomfortable at times on the arthritis & carpal tunnel. I thought I'd try a 9.
Now, I shoot a 1911 anytime I want, as much as I want. The ammo and/or components cost less, my follow up shots are quicker, & my hands don't feel like I've been using a 24 oz. framing hammer all day.
Yes, it's not compact, it's not as powerful as some, & it doesn't hold as much ammo as other designs, it's just plain fun to shoot.

I have a Springfield range officer in 9mm, I enjoy it and can shoot good groups. It has almost no recoil. However, I still prefer my 45 ACP.
I was curious, has anyone seen the Ruger 1911 Target 9mm in person? I'm not sure if I like the chevron slide serrations. Do they look better in person.?

The Ruger 9mm Target model is interesting as it looks like they have the bull barrel and FLGR of the 10mm in it. I think if I do Ruger in 9mm it will be with the CMD or the new "Officers size" with the 3.6 inch barrel.

I noticed it and thought the bushing-less bull barrel and FLGR was interesting. It is like my 10mm SR1911-10 but in 9mm. Why not take the SR1911 target in 45ACP and make that in 9mm with a barrel with a bushing and a normal recoil spring system?

Not sure I understand the difference between a standard and a target 1911 but I wish I had waited for the 5" barrel 9mm 1911 rather than get the SA Range Officer in that format. The rugers are just a cut above the SA's. I sent Ruger an email asking for a full size 9mm and they didn't make one at the time.

I've never owned a 1911, had them in the Navy and come qualify time I was terrible with them. But I've always liked the stream line look of them. Well picked up the target 9mm and it really is a blast to shoot and I can shoot it good. I reload so 4 grains of promo and a 124 gr bullet and I'm good to go.
