Nope. We're all asleep.

Seriously, 1911's are a bit of a niche market compared to, say, 9mm polymer wonder semi-autos. Within the 1911 market, guns chambered in other than .45 acp occupy an even smaller niche.

Ruger seems to have made a good one with their new 10mm, and I think they will sell enough of them to make it worthwhile. 10mm has been making a comeback over the past year or so. Maybe with a Ruger joining the fray it will become more mainstream.

I may want one not sure yet, but I wanted the 357SIG first. Then when I read the 10mm has ballastics close to the 41mag that sounds better? I just hate to add another caliber to my line up. I'm getting old.

Urban legend. The 10 is much closer to the 357 than the 41. It is really only close to the 41 in diameter.

There is only ONE 1911, unless you count the 1911A1 as a separate model. And they both shoot .45ACP. Any other caliber is NOT a 1911, no matter how many knockoffs are produced. THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE!

I'm in very interested in this, enough to buy. The only problem I have with it is not the firearm at all, or even the caliber exactly. It's wondering if the 10mm will really be popular enough so that in the future even looking 15-20 years down the road I may find ammunition for it on the shelf and at a reasonable price.

I remember a few years back 10mm was attempting to make a come back in the market where a variety of popular semi auto's appeared commonly on the shelves in gun shops everywhere. My understanding that compared to 9mm and .45 ACP is was the least popular in sales across all manufacturers. The 10mm craze flopped more or less.

So just speaking for myself this is an important factor in buying. I really like Rugers 1911 10mm but I don't want to inherit an ammo finding headache for years to come. Or sticker shock when I do find it.

1600 for a 41 mag is a "touch" over max load...... 1450 more like max!

Well I guess that may depend on the gun ;-)

But I must admit that 10mm ammo has come a long ways, albeit still not quite 41 magnum.

You can get a 180 grain bullet moving a lot faster than 1250 from a 357 as well.

I stand by my previous remark that a 10 is closer to the 357 in performance than the 41.

Everyone has their opinions and this is the place to express them. :D My opinion is that the 10mm is not the equal to a 41mag. I think it is closer to the 41 than it is a 357. The added advantage is firepower if needed. 8+1 in the 1911 and the ability to get off quick follow up shots tip the balance for me. Here in the West, a lot of hunting guides in bear country carry 1911 and Glock 10mm's as backup. I have some 220gr hardcast Buffalo Bore rated at 1200fps. That to me is plenty adequate for it's intended purpose of woods defense. I do agree that a dedicated hunting handgun in 41mag is a better choice, but still think the 10mm is plenty adequate for deer and hogs. JMO of course!

I will agree with you there, and this new offering from Ruger is really testing my resolve. I just take exception with the tale that a 10mm is equal to a 41 ;-)

The 10mm is making a come back. Remington, Colt, rock island and several others are making their brand in a 10mm 1911. I have a 41 mag and still own a new model delta elite and rock sland armory. Why limit yourself?

Interesting comments and I just had to reply with my thoughts. I bought a Colt Delta Elite in 10 mm when they first came out in the mid '80's (maybe one of the first in my state). Since then I've run at least 2 different 10 mm's after my original and currently run a SS Delta Elite and a Sig P220 in 10 mm. Only trouble I ever had was locating dies, bullet and cases, and loading info at the beginning. Now a days, there are more choices than ever, plus many different factory loads for those how don't reload. The 10 mm round is more popular today than it ever has been in my opinion. Don't let this new 10 mm Ruger scare you off! Anybody have a S&W Model 610 for sale?

It is simply not for everyone. Thats a good thing.

The most-accurate 5" 10mm I've owned was an all-stainless EAA Witness Elite. It was almost boring to hit coke-can targets at up to 75 yards first shot, every shot.

Oh, well the 6" barreled GP100 I recently sold ran 1592 fps with Buffalo Bore 158gr JHPs, a near 200ft lb advantage over the 200gr load. Don
