So the other night I was look at my SR1911 and found a gouge on the inside of my hammer. The gun has run flawlessly and I think the mark may have been there from the day it was made and not caught. I sent some pictures to Ruger and they want me to send it in for them to look at. I really don't want to but I guess I will. Is it much trouble sending a gun to Ruger? I am waiting on my shipping label right now.

Nope, just don't send in anything you want to keep.... Like the gun rug or box.

I keep a generic "Ruger" box around for just such occasions! You'll get another one just like it when it comes back!

Go to M1911.org, ezine section and read review of SR1911. There is a photo of a "gouge" on top of the hammer, and an explanation.

A. The hammer "ding" is actually the remnant of the sprue from the MIM process. It was put in a non-critical area so as to not affect function. It's only visible when the hammer is cocked.

Yep. Also to be found on pretty much every Kimber out there as well. ;)

MOST 'parts' get "finished" off, sometimes they do NOT...cosmetic and easily remedied......certainly NOTHING to affect the operation/function......

Yes I was on vacation last week and never sent it in. I pretty sure I am not sending it in unless it starts malfunctioning.

Mine has one, and I can definitely tell you it's not caused by wear or any problem with the gun. I have had hundreds of rounds through mine and it still has the bluing/black on it. If it was a wear mark it wouldn't. The one on mine is almost tear drop shaped and about 1/8" long. Not a problem at all. Keep looking and you just might find a real problem.
