Did you toss that Ruger lock in the scrap barrel?
No problem with the Ruger- I am just waiting for the prices to become more realistic. So I will just have to suffer with my RIA's and Springfields.

If I have the option to buy a US-made 1911 or one made in the Philippines, I'll take the US product, thank you. My comments concerned the Ruger vs. the RIA 1911s, as per the OP's request. I wasn't comparing cars or electronics here.

And yes, I did toss that POS Ruger lock in the trash.;)

I don't know where Ruger gets their magazines but I do know that MecGar supply's the (factory) Hi Power mags to both Browning and FN. So, being's how the High Power is one of the most reliable semi-auto pistols that I know of, I'd take that to mean that a gun maker could do a lot worse than having MecGar supply their mags.

On the other hand, the big JMB/Colt .45ACP pistol has been around for over 100 years. You'd think that by now, fabricating a proper magazine for one wouldn't be all that hard.....It aint like they got a lot development work to do, eh?

Oh I wasn't demeaning MecGar mags .... I think they're some of the best mags on the planet. I'm merely responding to the poster who claimed the Ruger was so great because it was totally 'MADE IN THE USA' (except for the cheap China made lock). Ruger would be lucky to have mags of MecGar quality.

I've heard that's who makes them, and since the poster mentioned he 'threw out the POS lock' .... I was also wondering if he threw out the POS ...non-USA-made mags as well.

I use MecGars in all my CZ's and Sigs, and have never had ANY kind of issue with them.

Yeah Lark63, that was the point.
"Made in USA" has a nice ring to it, but as you have already discovered, that aint always what it's cracked-up to be.

Aint no flys on an SKS, and there aint no shame in owning one. Fact is, it's a very good rifle for it's intended purpose. But keep it or not, that is up to you.....or you could buy a USA-made Mini-30 for 2-1/2 times the money, and get about the same results.

That's all I know about that.

TripleK mags are garbage, and my SKS works just fine. I love shooting it. I broke it completely down, oiled it, and never have had an issue.

My SR1911s test fired brass has a date of June 19, 2012. Both magazines have "Made In USA" stamped into them.

Rumor also had it that Checkmate may make some of the mags for Ruger ... not really familiar with them, but if they're factory OEM for anybody ... I'm sure they're good.

Me ... I use any old generic 1911 junker military mags in my Colts and Springfield, and I have a box full of them ... all assorted, some bought new, some bought surplus in 10 and 12 packs wrapped in oil paper, some looked like they were drug behind a truck for 100 miles. When I go shooting, I grab a handful at random .... they all work fine in all of my guns. If your 1911 needs 'special big-buck mags' like Chip McCormack ..... you either haven't tried good old generic mags, or you're just a mag snob. :D

Actually, I have several brands of magazines. My favorites are Wilson. I live pretty close them and bought a nice supply of their refurbished magazines on the cheap.

What is with you guys, this is a Ruger forum, if you can't say something nice go some where else and vent. Nobody here wants to hear your bs I have bought Rugers for more than 40 years and I haven't got a bad one yet. The 1911 they have come out with is as good as any colt I own, in fact its a 1000 dollar weapon. Give us a break and take your negativey some where else. Or buy one, and hopefulyl you will shut up.

Hmmmm! been here a couple months and telling people that have been here over 7 yrs to " shut up ". Oh ya, that will endear you to the Forum members. I personally get a kick out of the discusions of the "old hands" here. A person does not HAVE to read any post he disagrees with. Feel free to skip those you don't like! Lighten up. You will get along better here. No one takes kindly to personal attacks.
