I handled my first Ruger 1911 today - one of the LGS's (Columbia MO) has one for $750 that a guy traded in - It looked new, maybe unfired to me. First one I've seen in any of the gun shops I frequent. They all still say they can't get them on any regular basis. Bought an LCP instead for less than half the money (almost the same, right :D )

As long as I've heard folks not being able to find these, every time I find a spare and offer it up to folks saying they'd like one, seems no one was really interested.

I know of two new ones, in Vancouver Washington, at Warehouse Sports, remaining unsold in the case. As soon as I say they are $699, I will be reminded that that's pretty high. Well, it's less than I paid, and I was pleased to get (both) of mine.

It's the un-obtainium model that sells for much less.

Last weeks Atlanta gunshow had 2 @ $749. I passed. Today's Marietta gunshow had one for MSRP. I had a Kimber Eclipse Ultra ll as trade bait, but he would have had to give me $200 to boot. I didn't even ask. I did find a dealer that's getting 4 in a week or so and he thought they were $649. If so, I'll own one and keep the Kimber :D

It's not that they're still so hard to find.
It's that some gouging dealers still THINK they're hard to find.

They're still hard to find ~ in some geographic areas. Mine is one of them.

For those of us who own a local business, are active in the community, and on the Executive Committee for the local Friends of NRA ~ it's in our best interest to buy locally. The internet is not local.

To my knowledge ONE local store has had a total of TWO for sale since they came out some 18 months ago. Neither even hit the display shelf and were sold for MSRP.

There are plenty around here, they have never been real hard to come by.

Everything you buy is local? I hadn't intended to move to Illinois anyway, but I'm shocked to find out they hang people for not buying locally.

Not everything of course Matt but I make an effort. I try to buy from locally owned businesses too. I save the box stores and internet for things not available here. It's really not difficult at all ..... you just gotta want to do it, just like your slogan of buying American.

And, I'm not in a hurry for a 1911. One will show up in due course. There's plenty of other Rugers to shoot.

I've noticed that Alaska has gotten more than a few SR1911's, a lot more!

That's where I purchased mine (Wholesale Sports). It's on 4th Plain in Vancouver. I'm pretty sure the price is still $649.99 but I could be wrong.

I do the same, and I was fortunate to find my SR1911 semi local, however I also live out in the sticks so the UPS driver knows me pretty well. I always give my local shop the first chance, they usually come through, especially on small parts that they can put on their regular order. Sometimes they can't and if its something I want then I'll order it.

FWIW - One of my local gun pushers is a big Ruger dealer and he has 5 coming in today from a Dallas distributor. He called me last week to see if I was still interested in one, I reminded him I bought one from two months ago but my son wanted one. Price is $619 plus tax. I don't know how many of the rest are sold but he usually carries a list of WTB from his regular clients. When I bought mine it was about 10 bucks more because it came from a different distributor and it seems some distributors or charging a bit more for them.

Mine is an area that they have been in and are fairly common. However the price has sure been all over the place from $629 to $799.

I had one for sale on this forum for $700 shipped and it did not sell very quickly. I ended up taking less for it.....so they are available.
