Never heard of the cartridge "rotating" as it chambers..... Where did you hear about this??

Yeah ... I wasn't even going to get into it ... if you believe that matters or even if you believe it happens to whatever extent ... it's not worth arguing that point with anyone if they believe it.

Does it move around axially a little ... sure ... but rotating several times ... I don't think so.

+1... I don't always agree with Rev, but I do in this post.

I know this is an old post, but I'm bringing it back because this was exactly the question I had yesterday. Long story short, yesterday I actually found a SR1911 on the shelf for a price that didn't knock my hat off, and I bought it. I purchased it from a brand new gunshop that didn't even have a box of ammo for it on the shelf yet. So I ran over to Walmart and picked up a box of steel case ammo. I'm a reloader, so I just wanted something cheap to run in it until all my components get here (not planning on reloading the steel - my reloads will be brass). Anyway, this morning I went out and ran both magazines through the 1911 with the cheap steel case stuff, and it ran flawless.

Why wouldn't it? The only thing wrong with steel cased ammo is that you can't reload it.

Years ago the old Wolf stuff was not good. Smelled really bad. Dark varnished cases. I tried Silver Bear and had a few cases have hairline cracks after firing but smelled better. The latest from Tula is 230 gr FMJ steel case non-corrosive boxer primed and made in Russia of course like the others. To me it is a light round but at least two of the ranges I go to do not want you to use any steel cased ammo. You can pick it up with a magnet. Why is it worse than CCI Aluminum case ammo?

Why would two ranges not want you to use steel cased ammo? Is it because they can't resell it? I don't understand what difference it could make to the range.

Years ago I found the Wolf 230gr FMG in .45 smelled really bad when I shot it. I tried some Silver Bear later and found hairline cracks in some of the spent cases. Recently I have tried some of the TULA 230 gr steel cases and they work fine, but have not tried them in my SR1911. They seem sort of mild in their recoil and do not smell bad.

By the way, a lot of the new steel case stuff is Boxer primed, but I would have a hard time trying to reload it as I would worry about my reloading dies. Pick it up with a magnet and recycle.

They're probably worried that the bullet jacket is also steel, and would potentially cause a fire from the sparks....

In the early days Wolf and Silver Bear had some issues, but today with the new stuff I think it is O.K. I still have issues reloading it. When I run out of brass cases I will try it.
