Usually a leather guy myself, but in really warm weather where I might be sweating a bit, I usually grab my BladeTech Revolution. Comes with both paddle and belt attachment. I use the belt, and it is extremely secure. Adjustable for tension on the gun as well as for belt thickness and cant angle. http://imgur.com/ApnoIoh

Highly second that recommendation. I pretty much only carry my 1911s (which is all I carry anymore) in one of Rob's Cudas. They work great, and are absolutely one of the most comfortable holsters I have ever tried.

When I bought my SR 1911 a friend on the forum generously offered to give me a Galco Fletch holster. I like it.

Blackhawk Serpa. Quick for draw and reholstering.
Be careful with the Serpa holster, many shooters have "Glocked legged" themselves in drawing out of that holster. Make sure your trigger finger stays straight after releasing the lock.

I'd avoid both the SERPA and Fobus. They are popular because they are inexpensive and available at nearly every gun shop. They are not good holsters.

If you want kydex, the two big quality players are Blade-Tech and Comp-Tac. Garrett Industries is an interesting option with leather lined kydex.

Some of the more respected names in leather are...

The first thing you need to get is a proper belt. Almost all the leather holster makers offer a belt, which would match the holster if you bought from them.

Two of the better known belt only makers are...

The Beltman http://www.thebeltman.net/www/htdocs/index.html

A&G Custom Leather http://agcustomgunleather.com/store/

A less expensive option is The Wilderness Tactical Instructor Belt (get the 5-stitch model) http://www.thewilderness.com/tactical-belts/

Whatever belt you buy, make sure you follow the sizing instructions. The size will not be the same as your jeans size. Usually 3"-4" larger than your jeans waist size.

I give up now. First holster is going to be plastic to glue, epoxy, under dash, a permanent for the 1911, I get in, i shove it in, also a
place for 2 mags. Thats my day dream.
NOW, whose going to break it, tell me, did any do this so far, works doesn't.

I've heard of Simply Rugged, but never the "Cuda". After reading this post I went to Rob's web site and ordered one.... Not for a 1911 but for a S&W 645. Was having a hard time finding anyone that makes a holster for that gun anymore.

Hard time finding a holster for a 1911? Just google it and you'll have enough stuff to dig thru for a week or more.

Simply Rugged has six different models including the aforementioned Cuda.
