I've had this briefcase several years. It looked just like this when I bought it, and I've treated it with leather preservant a couple times. The tattered edges are a thin edging layer that was sewn over the edges simply to cover the seams for looks, but is pretty well worn in some places. The briefcase itself is solid and in good shape. The only other thin material is the buckle straps themselves but I have leather guys who can change them out if necessary so I never bothered with them, and don't think they'll break anytime soon. I actually like the look of it, but I've quit using it now that I have a 17" laptop that will not fit in it. This one is 15" wide at the front seam.
