Original high condition Colt that is Western shipped. Mint bore, excellent action and timing. I've had this a long time and it's time to let it go. It's the finest ORIGINAL 1st Gen I've ever had my hands on. $7,800 takes it home....

First gen colts do not have a spring loaded device holding the cylinder pin in position............Second generation colts do.............this is the first thing one looks for.....................

Wrong! ..... Colt switched to a spring loaded cross pin around 1896 , so you will find both styles of pins in the first generation

Kooz. You are right as rain. I have two Transition Black Powder 1st Gens with that feature. I have seen them as early as 164000 with that. Ron, no worries man. Colts are super tricky!

Not to interfere in a sale but I have a question. I understood 1st gen to be up to WW-II including both BP frames and smokeless. (partly due to no exact demarcation between the two) Gen 2 post war and Gen 3 late 60's or 70's when they started up again. What's the true definitions?

Yes, they are first gen from 1873 to 1940. The issue lies in all the changes over that span. Types of steel used, many different roll die markings, position of markings, types of bluing, degree of polish, style of grips, where the Grips are marked, ejector rod housing, ejector rod, front sights. Hammers were different, cylinder bevel, cylinder locking bolt leads on the cylinder. And that's not all of it. It literally is amazing how many variations there are...
