Did Ruger Used to Buy Barrel Blanks?

Howdy

Long time since I have been here. I see there is a video out there showing Ruger manufacturing their own barrels from bar stock.

I seem to recall in years past Ruger was buying pre-rifled barrel blanks and cutting and shaping them to finished dimensions.

Does anyone remember this?

A search shows they used Douglas and Wilson in the 70s

Yes, originally they bought rifle barrel blanks from Douglas, later they switched to Wilson barrels in Conn.
Around 1990-91 they began phasing in their own barrels which are hammer forged in house.
All this applies to rifles only, the pistol barrels are another story.
