I've owned M77's for over 40 years, and this never crossed my mind (probably because they've mostly been stainless guns for the last 20 years or so): When attaching rings to a blued receiver, do any of you first apply a rust preventative, like maybe RIG, to the surfaces where the rings and receiver meet?

I have probably 6 - 7 of them. Never have done that & haven't any rust issues but it sounds like a good idea.

I use a gun grease. I degrease all surfaces. Then apply a good coat of grease let sit for a bit. Them wipe off lightly. I leave a visible grease sheen but no visible grease. Don't want a thick coat to attract dust and debris.
