I am scheming to have a No. 1 rebarrelled with a heavy, longer 45-70 barrel, resulting in a 45-70 built like the 458 "Tropical" profile OR a bit heavier. Throat to accept heavier hard cast bullets.

First I have to acquire a rifle as the project subject.... don't want to be without my current 45-70 while it's away for the rework, as most custom jobs I've undertaken take a LONG time.

Suggestions on who you would have do the conversion?

He's currently the president of the American Custom Gunmakers Guild and a professional metalsmith and stockmaker being a one stop shop.

He's done several custom No. 1's for me and several dozen for others that I have seen. All top notch conversions including 22 LR's. Easy to work with limited only by what you are willing to spend.
