Does any have a link or specs for the older model 77 HB tang model, blue & walnut.
Weight and barrel lengths? Mid 70's era.

1975 77V
5 calibers listed
22-250, 6mm, 243, 25-06 with 24" barrels
220 Swift with a 26"

I have no weights but Rugers printed numbers weren't accurate anyway, they still aren't. Memory serves as them being a bit lighter than a Remington V at the time which was nearly 9#. Thinking the 77 was 8.5#.

Do you know if they are about the same diameter as the Remington hvy. bbl?
And when was the 308 introduced?
Thank you

SW, I bought a 77 308 HB or varmint in 1975. If memory serves, I believe it was called the varmint or 77V with 24" barrel, walnut stock, and rings. Bob!! 8)

Everything I've read about them was all good. All the old reviews say they were very accurate. But I'm thinking a little to heavy for a woods gun.?

They are okay for shooting from a stand or a blind if you have a good, solid rest..... and the target appears where it's supposed to. Shooting a varmint rifle offhand is pretty tough.... they are awfully nose-heavy. On my bull-barrel bench rifles, I bore a 5/8 inch hole about 3" deep in the stock under the buttplate and fill it with lead shot to improve the balance. Carrying one in the woods? Nope!!!

I just have a couple dealer price sheets, a 1975 & 83. A 77V in 308 is added in the 83 list. I know 280's existed, but not sure when offered.
Other calibers might turn up, might not, but Ruger made some tang 77's that were never cataloged. So oddities do exist.
