I have the 22" barrel 77 MK II in 6.5x55 (1994) Does Ruger install factory iron sights? Would I be better off just having a local smith do it?

My experience with Ruger has been that they might if that model already exists with iron sights. If that model was never offered with iron sights, they are not going to make you a one of a kind rifle. Now, one would think with them announcing their custom shop, adding sights or changing wood would be any easy option, but not so. I just added a factory front sight to my Hawkeye in 6.5 CM with parts from both Midway and Brownells. You need to know the outside diameter of your barrel and then find a front sight base that matches. Bob! 8)

Thanks Bob,
I was thinking it would probably be easier to get sights from NECG, Brownels etc., and have a good smith install them. Thanks

That would work just as well, if not better. I used a NECG receiver sight on my 6.5 CM so that I didn't have to drill and tap the barrel. It has at least a 28" sight radius. Bob! 8)
