My last purchase was a Lipsey Special "African" in 6.5X55....I was disappointed in that it was an African in name only as it is more on the lines of a Highland Stalker.

Lipsey also had one similair in 275 Rigby prior

I assumed so too, until I opened the box :(

Then read the Lipsey discription, actually had the Gun Shop to look it up to see if some type of mistake was made....there was, MINE for jumping without lookin

I just picked up my 'African' in 308. It has a 20" barrel, a crossbolt,a williams single blade rear sight and what looks like a Ruger front sight. It doesn't say african on it or the box. It does say RLS on the box.

Shooter, how does that compare to your compact magnum in 308. Just curious, I didn't buy it to collect. I really don't care if it's an African, a Compact Magnum, a Carbine, or a short RLS. It's a pretty handy little rifle that's a pleasure to shoot.
It's already wearing my Leupold 2-7 and the barrel is about halfway to being broken in. It handles slicker than an old 94 Winchester.

SHOOTER, if you want the "express" sights, they might be available from Ruger. I have a set I bought long time ago for another project I never started.

IF your 308 has short barrel (20") then they might look right on there.

I called Ruger about specific sights for the Swede, but the rep could not provide which hight would be correct. appearantly there are several

My 6.5Swede is just too long and slender for express sights. I plan on mounting a scope. A 1-5X20mm DGS even looks out of place, I have a 6X42 I think will comliment this Stalking Rifle

Thanks, Yep, that's mine, call it RCM or African. As my Dad used to say, you can call me anything, just don't call me late for dinner. I missed them when they were out a few years ago. I had almost given up finding one of them and was about ready to get the 300 in this configuration, but that's an awful lot if power for the little deer we have in this part of VA, especially at the close ranges where I hunt.

Maybe the "most wanted" of the African models is the 9.3x62. I don't believe any of the "Africans" are marked as such. That being said, to me the only ones that should be called "African" are the ones that at least have the sling stud on the barrel and the non elevation adjustable express blade rear sight. I bobbed my 9.3 from 23" to 21" and it is a lot handier. At 23" as heavy as the barrel is on the 9.3x62, it was too muzzle heavy. At 21", it is still a little muzzle heavy, but exactly how I like it for that rifle.

the africa is different than the express and magnum which the express was chambered in 25/06,270,30/06,7mm mag,300 win mag,and 338 win mag and the magnum was chambered in 375 h&h,416 rigby,458 lott,404 jeffery,458 win mag, there may have been more calibers, and the 458 win mag and 404 jeffery were cataloged but may have not produced.i'm sure sombody out there knows more.

My M77 Hawkeye African is in .375 Ruger.
With previous original owner, it made the trip to Africa. Took an assortment of plains game including two Cape Buffalo.

The guns y'all are calling African are a cheaper production of old rugers

the M77 express in 25-06, 270, 280-7mm express, 7 rem mag, 30-06, 300 win mag, 338 win mag

The m77 rsm
375 h&h, 416 rigby, 458 Lott

The 458 win mags are just regular m77's
