I'm interested in the accuracy of the Ruger Gunsite Scout rifle with the 16.25 barrel in stainless and the plastic stock.

I'm brand new to this forum and have been downsizing my arsenal to guns and calibers more relevant to me at this time. I think this rifle would be quite a compromise in good ways but am interested in:

1. accuracy
2. shooting it without the muzzle break

Thanks!

I've had my Scout Rifle for a couple of years now, haven't scoped it or shot it from a bench rest but I find it very accurate for field use. The peep sights make for easy shooting. I think it is equal in accuracy to a Springfield M1A, at least at shorter ranges.

Here's a target, 100 yards prone position, about 2" with 150 grain FMJ ammo:

I have had two, the best one shot into 1.5" with Hornady Reduced Recoil loads.
The worse one did well under 3" with Remington 168.
Both guns had a Leupold scout scope at the time of bench testing (short Harris bipod).
Both guns were laminated stock guns.

The GSR rifle is my do-everything 308. And everyone wants to shoot it.

I do not intend to mount a scope on mine. The "ghost sights" work fine. The rifle seems to be very well made and solid. An excellent bolt action!
