I know it's not needed, but if I limited my gun buying to only what's needed that would be no fun. I'm picking up a Ruger PC9 in a few days. The barrel is threaded 1/2X28, same as the AR types, but of course squeezing a 9mm bullet through a 22 caliber brake isn't going to help me in the accuracy department. Can anyone direct me to a brake (can't use the "evil flash hider on this in CA") with the AR threads and a 9mm exit hole?

There are a few different types available, some for sale here ( I have Kaw Valley Linear Comps on both of my 16" 9mms):

That's a "Flash Hider" and the OP specifically said he is not allowed to have one in CA

I took a Strike Industries WarHog and had it drilled out. Looks great and works well

Might not be exactly what you are looking for but I had this one on my mind if I buy the Carbine 9.

You might want to wait until you actually receive it. My understanding is the PC9s shipping to California don't have threaded barrels. I'd hate for you to order something to have ready for the rifle and then discover you can't mount it.

I purchased an inexpensive brake muzzle for $64 and am quite satisfied with it.

The KEW linear compensation or link above goes to a gadget that improves accuracy by lowering muzzle jump and redirects much of the: muzzle blast, flash and sound down range.

If you have ordered a model 19101 it does not have a threaded barrel, model 19102 does. AFAIK the model 19100 is not legal in Ca as it has a 17 round magazine.

Why make it longer? Its compactness is one of its assets. I don't want anything on a firearm that doesn't have to be there. The ghost ring sights come up fast and are more accurate that most shooters can use. The carbine is balanced, and except for someone wanting a suppressor I cannot fathom adding anything to it.

The linear compensator reduces muzzle jump increasing accuracy and improving time on target. It also reduces muzzle blast and sound. Is it worth while? Having shot PCC with and without it I think so. Need to have-no way. Nice to have yes!

I would like a short one like that single port one mentioned early on. Seems like it would protect the crown a little better than the thread protector.

Well a couple things:
Thing 1: a muzzle brake may be called a compensator, but a linear compensator is kind of the reverse. A muzzle brake works by diverting some of the gas coming out of the gun back and to the sides (maybe to the top as well) trading increased noise and muzzle flash for the shooter for reduced recoil. (You really need this with 338 mag or 50 BMG.) The linear compensatory does the reverse. It redirects most of the: escaping gas, noise, flash and muzzle blast down range for increased recoil. The PCC recoil is so light that recoil doesn't matter.
Thing 2; either may direct some of the gas upward decreasing muzzle jump, and improving recovery time and accuracy. I'm not familiar with the brake mentioned above but I doubt that it does this. The KAW linear compensator does just fine.
