Just bought a Ruger pc9 guy said was unfired but not postive. After a little research i found that the ones marked police carbine are rare. Info i found does not show my serial # but its marked police carbine. Was wondering if anyone knows more on these. Thanks

Heres what i found

From my reference of Ruger Firearms, Volume 2.
PC9 with "RUGER POLICE CARBINE" rollmarked on the left side of the receiver, sling swivel stud in buttstock and barrel band and allen wrench style trigger housing screw. Known s/n's 470-02080 and 470-02189. Only two known. Probably not more than a few hundred produced. Very rare.

PC4 and PC9 with "RUGER POLICE CARBINE" rollmark on the left side of the receiver, no sling swivel studs and straight slot style trigger housing screw. Known s/n's and s/n ranges 470-00010 to 470-00023 and 470-02957 to 470-03743 (PC9) and 480-00010 to 480-00552 and 480-02036 to 480-02054. Probably not more than 1,000 PC9 and not more than 650 PC4 produced of this variety. Rare.

PC4 and PC9 with "RUGER POLICE CARBINE" rollmark on the left side of the receiver, with sling swivel studs and with straight slot trigger housing screw. Known s/n's 470-00316 and 470-00319 (PC4) and 470-02320 (PC9). A extremely rare variety with only two PC4 known and one PC9 known.

I actually don't mind the trigger. I wish I could find more out about. If its rare I really don't want to use it much.

I would not get all involved in the 'rare find'... but go and put some rounds through it. Do you have a 9mm P pistol? If not that is what you need.

What is 'rare' is actually finding one.... if you are gong to keep it in the safe, I think you should sell it to me for say $300 and I'll keep it in my safe.

Good.

I hate the thought of a PC sitting in a safe, not being shot just because of some markings on the side.

All of the PC9 serial numbers mentioned in your reference would be from 1996, the first year of production.

Beginning serial number for 1997 would be 470-04391.

I believe the referenced PC4 serial numbers should be 480-, not 470-. First produced in 1997, beginning SN for 1998 was 480-05146.

A rare find indeed, but I would shoot the crap out of it!

My Police Carbine is in the second paragraph, but my serial # is about 150 higher. I had a confab with chet15 about this. I have no idea if there is any significance to the number glitch.

That's one thing I do have to say about this gun, it has chewed up everything I feed it...
even wolf and tula
with out one single hick-up... and be pretty darn surgical out at 100 yrds w/ +p and +P+

it was design as a service weapon so

Don't be afraid to use it

I've got one marked "Police Carbine" too. I don't think anyone cares about the collectability of these guns, just how great they are to shoot.
