Meet my new deer hunting partner "Bob"

.257 Bob that is. Bob was sitting in a local gun store this last winter. Not the kinda store that normally had Number Ones. They cater more to the Target Clays, SxS, double rifle, ect crowd.

There it was, literally sitting in the corner almost hiding. Not many a Number One gets by me and this one was no exception, especially not with this wood.

Pretty much a custom gun with 24"bbl, killer wood and a trigger job. I have not shot it yet but it is reported a 3/4 MOA gun. As long as it is MOdeer I really could care less but it would be a nice bonus. Came complete with the Nikon scope.

Fresh off Christmas and the latest ruining from Newton and Wolosek I was cash poor and wanting rich. The owner made me a deal/plan I could not refuse. He could see how much I wanted it and being the nice guy he is he made it happen for me.

Besides they do have a very strict "you drool on it you bought it" policy.

Well it came home with me last night and now I cannot wait for deer season. The old 6mm might have to take a back seat for a hunt or two.

That ebony schnable forend would have sold me just by itself! I'm stealing that design for one I'm carving very soon; just got the ebony block in from Galazans.

What a beautiful rifle!

I normally don't like two tone forends but this one is sweet, it must be due to the shape.
I'm surprised that your rifle even made it to the shelf, let alone sat there for awhile.
Good catch!

I would be missing body parts now if I had seen that gun first! Wow!

I am turning green with envy. That is unquestionably the most beautiful custom No. 1 I have ever seen.

Dave,
Really nice find. Can see why the 6mm's are going to the back seat! You know the .257 is the near perfect Texas whitetail round?

I picked up an A Bob in January and its been fun to play with. It has a pretty plain stock but thats okay for a hunting gun. I just got my .303 A back from Ruger and loaded up some 150 grain Sierras to test out, too bad the weather didn't want to cooperate today.

I'll be hunting Elk in Missouri Breaks with the 303 and riverbottom Whitetails in the eastern part of the state with the Bob this fall.

That is one stunning rifle. I love the .257 Roberts. I have the blue Lipsey's Number 1, which I haven't even shot yet, and I also have a Kimber 84 that is a tack driver.

Mr Bumps:

I have the Kimber 84, too, but I haven't shot it yet. Do you have a recommended load?

TIA.

So far I am getting sub MOA with the Barnes 100 gr TSX BT over 45 Grains of RL-19. I load this to an COAL of 2.82, which seems to be about max for the magazine. I am .03 off the rifling lands with this load. It's also a very pleasant load in this light rifle.

Very nice #1. I have always liked a schnable forend. I prefer it to the Alex Henry version. Let us know how she shoots.
