Was at a gun show this morning and saw an old 10/22 with composite stock (probably not original to the gun). Gun serial starts with 10XXX. $200 OTD - fair price? Also, approx age? I'm guessing 60s. Are these 60s 10/22s really better?

Fair price,, and no, it did not ship with a composite stock. To know what it shipped with,,, you'd need a letter from Ruger as to the model.

Serial number 10xxx is probably going to be a standard "R" carbine, walnut stock.
The earliest ones up to 1971 I believe had the raked forend, that is the portion of the forend in front of the barrel band swept back and up at the front. Later forends are pretty much rounded.
