MK 1 rear sight blade

Is there an easy way to install a new rear sight blade? I spoke with a Ruger tech and found out they are making (1) style of rear sight blade. This blade has a small protrusion that is supposed to mate up with the newer Mark pistol. The older pistols have a straight blade. The answer was to file the bump down and maybe thin the blade to fit the slot.
