New model single six serial number

I just purchased a nib single six 22/22 mag and cannot find year by serial lookup. Can anyone help? It's a yellow box and has a D 260-198xx number. I don't see anything with a D and that low of number. Thanks so much!

"D" is Duplicate. I say 1983 on year.

What barrel length do you have? The Duplicate numbers were NR4 = 50, NR5 = 200 and the NR6 = 160, NR9 = 51.

What does the D stand for? Was it sent back to factory at some point?

D is for duplicate serial #. Adding the D makes the # different from the original gun numbered 260-198xx.

There were roughly 500 Single-Six serial numbers in that block that were Duplicated at Ruger, from D260-19500 through D260-19999. The Ruger Collectors' Association obtained most of them for sale to the RCA membership including all of the NR4's and NR9's. The rest of the guns went through Ruger's normal distribution.
