Hi. My dad gave me this ruger mark 1 pistol. I was curious as to the date of manufacture and any info I could find out. It's serial# is 302192. Thanks for any info.

hitman, if I am reading Ruger's chart right, they call it a 65?

btw, Dennis, welcome to the forum. We actually have some EXPERTS here (not me) and most people behave civil. If you have never disassembled/reassembled the gun you will find it a bit of a challenge the first time. Don't worry it eventually gets real easy and you will come to appreciate the genius of Bill Ruger's design. Also, there are plenty of "how tos" on you tube for this gun.

Also, you should direct further posting to the "Rimfires, long and short" catagory for anything relating to a .22. The moderator will probably move this thread there.

To many Ruger is not a reliable source for their very own s/n information. I rely on RENE.

1963 is 300854 to 308372
1964 is 308373 to 311924
1965 is 311925 to 319643
...and..D314940 to D315443

I also am not one of the "experts" ..... just copying what I read.

They were made by happy employees in 1963. Shoot the correct ammo (not hyper-velocity and not cheapo foreign stuff) and enjoy it for decades with your family and others. A Ruger pistol on your hip makes for a great day walking in the field.

dennis1865,

Yes welcome to the Ruger Forum.

Which is older? You or your pistol?

Oh, and why did you refer to it as a Ruger Mark 1 pistol?

You well find everything you need to know about your gun here on the RF.

It's probably marked as such on the gun. If it has adjustable sights it is in fact a Mark I. The Standard Model was made during the same time frame, but had fixed sights.

I have a January 1958 Standard Model that was my first handgun purchase in 1986. It's older than I am.

302192 should be a Mark I pistol with adjustable sights.
Besides the few errors they made in their serial numbering, the entire 3xxxxx block was reserved for pistols with adjustable sights...the Mark I.
The entire 4xxxxx block was reserved for fixed sight guns.
