I recently bought a used Williams peep sight for a 10/22 from my LGS that didn't include the front sight. I can get a 77/22 front sight from Midway for $5.99, it looks taller than the stock 10/22 front sight in the product photo. A stock 10/22 front sight is .300" tall, does anyone know the height or could measure your 77/22 front sight blade? Williams says I need .570", and they only list fiber optic front sights, which I don't care for.

Thanks for any help.

if you forgive me for not driven mine out to get an accurate measurement, I am getting about 0.35" for the 77/22 from top of the bead to top of the base. (measure 0.30" for 1022).

putting a spare 10/22 sight behind the 77/22, has the 77/22 about 1/2 a bead taller (~0.05")

while I was at it, the 77/44 is only 0.40"
the 99/44 and #3/44 are about the same as 10/22 (0.30")

I have an old Redfield peep mounted on my 10/22--it might be a bit lower than the Williams--and it still requires a very high front sight. In fact, I put a USGI M14 front sight on it--works great.

Williams also sells dovetail "sight risers" in various heights that you put between the front sight and the base. They're not that expensive--you could get one of each, find out which works best for you, and then prolly sell the rest here in the classifieds.

Thanks Mr. Snake. I noticed those in the catalog right after I ordered the correct gold bead sight from Williams at lunch today. Might as well do it right since the Ruger part won't work. Also ordered a .050" aperature, the standard is .093". Should be fun to shoot, has to be better than the stock sights.

And don't forget you can unscrew the aperture and use it as a ghost ring. In fact, it's fun to run your own speed/vs accuracy trials with and without the aperture in place.

The 77/22 is not your only choice, the 357, 44, and black powder guns may also be an option.
call ruger or brownells and talk to a tec. guy the can and have helped me with the same problem. If I remember correctly there are three different front sights.
