I came across a Ruger 22/45 Competition Target Model with 8" slab side barrel, composition frame, in very good condition. Serial number: 215-097xx. Anything special about this model? Seller is asking $425.

I think they made around 2,000 of the 22/45 Great Eights, but don't quote me. Not "rare" but not common either. Does it come with the original gray plastic box and papers? At $425 I would probably be asking you where it's at if I didn't already have one.

The "Great Eight" roll stamping should be prominent on the top of the barrel. Adjustable rar and hawksbill front blade.
The complete package should include the blued-steel scope base and rings, two mags and box, etc.

In my travels worth $425-475 condition being everything of course. An as-new, unfired complete package is more of course. Serious medicine for squirrels in the high branches!

I gave $420 for mine a year and a half ago. It came with the original box. Don't remember what else came with it and I don't have time to look right now. I agree that $350 would be a good starting point. I wouldn't want to go over $400 since the box is not included.

I think the MSRP as over $400 in August 1999, when I bought my first, a 22/45 blued Great Eight from Davidson's. That's $592 in 2017 dollars.
They certainly haven't gone down in value. Buy it.

I went back to the gun shop this afternoon to take a closer look at it. Turns out it is in mint condition with the box, two mags, all papers and a Ruger-branded trigger lock. Based on all of your comments plus input from Chad, I paid $425 including sales tax for it. I'll post some pictures later.

There are pictures of my "new" Ruger 22/45 Great Eight and box. The sealed envelop with the test fired cartridge was signed on 7/2/2002.

There were two of them on gun broker last week. One sold, guy decided he needed it about 100.00 more than I did and the second one is back on GB again. The one on GB now is not as nice as the one I tried to get.
