Just in from the Saturday morning gun shop run.. Picked up a pair. Number one is a stainless Super Blackhawk from 1984.. Nice old gun.. XR3-Red grip frame.. Looks like it might be a plated blue steel grip frame. Magna-Ported with a red inset in the front sight... Nothing a Bisley grip frame and cutting the barrel to 5.5 won't fix... Number two is a 5.5 OM Super Single Six. Little gun is nice without a magnum cylinder. Serial number comes before the earliest number that Ruger lists for the SSS... As luck would have it my RENE stuff is sitting on my desk at work...

Nice stuff, Axe.

Pop the grips off of the .44 and look at the grip frame. The letter "K" will be cast in the stainless versions.

The OM Super Single-Six started at s/n 500000 except for a handful of guns exported that, IIRC, were in the 400XXX s/n range.

Thanks Carl!

The SBH GF does have a KXR-3 marked on it... Has a 4 digit number stamped on the bottom right back corner too... Does not match the gun's SN.. Most likey matched the gun that was canabalized....

The SSS is a dash gun (60-05407)... Ruger's list starts after that...

Axe, Ruger's list for 1970 starts after that, meaning your number would be likely from 1969. The numbers on Ruger's lists are the starting number for each year, and show a non-prefixed SN for 1969. The 60 prefix serial numbers started in 1969 to comply with GCA68, so 60-00001 came along sometime in 1969 and they more or less ran through 60-13851.
