Nostalgia got the best of me and I wanted the end of the era for NYPD revolvers to be part of the collection. Got it today. I'm using the pics from the auction, but it has been fully taken apart and cleaned. It was filthy, as I expected. NYC cops are notorious for not maintaining their weapons.

Need spur on that hammer... :D

Nah. It would take away the whole point of over paying for it. I wanted an NYPD DAO revolver just for old times sake. I'm no even sure if I could just drop in a spurred hammer. I can't grab it and cock it so it needs more than a hammer to make it SA capable.

And I am a far better shooter now than I was 30 years ago. At 25 yards, five empty water bottles on the berm were quickly dispatched with 6 shots from this gun. The one that missed clipped it. I remember not shooting that well when I qualified.

The hammer on the DAO GPNY's does not have the SA cocking notch cut to allow it to be cocked and held there. Well, actually it's slightly cut from the machining but was never finished at the factory to give the true SA notch.

Basically, yes. Or, take the DAO hammer out and you will see the SA notch and that it is not deep enough to catch the sear correctly. You could work on that yourself if you feel you are competent you can do it. But you have to make sure the angle is not changed which could lead to bad things happening like a hair trigger.

If you want to convert it to a SA/DA then I would just get a replacement SA/DA hammer. You can always convert that hammer to a spurless if you wanted to keep the same look.

Nice find!

If it were mine, I'd prefer to save the original hammer for collector's sake and find another hammer to play with. JMHO

I got a spurred hammer and it dropped in perfectly. Nice to know I can shoot SA if I want and convert it back to original so easily.
