I'm going to need a holster for my new to me Flat Top 44 special(mid size frame) been told the regular Blackhawk holster is too big. Wondering if a colt SAA holster would work. I want a small high riding holster for field carry somthing like a Bianchi Lawman.

In one of the few real bragging cases of my career, I have a holster built for me personally by John Bianchi to fit my 4 5/8-inch original Lipsey's Flattop .44 Special.

You can get the same holster built by his regular craftsman at John Bianchi's Frontier Leather.

I have one that was for my New Vaquero and the Flattop fits it fine.
Planning on getting my ol' Vaquero back soon!

If you wear 36" or larger pants, the SR Sourdough pancake is an excellent choice.

After losing a bunch of weight, I found the SR Cattleman to be nearly perfect.

These two holsters were made for me by Graveyard Jack Gunleather:

Both are slight variations of standard design holsters. I especially asked for the thong/straps to be deleted.

I'll place another vote for Simply Rugged. Rob just made an excellent holster for my Walther P5. Very pleased with it.

I chose this one from Barranti. I think it only took 3 weeks to get it. Designed by Bill Grover. Can be worn right or left handed, strong side or cross draw. I like it just trying it on in the house, but haven't had it out in the field yet.

SR Cattleman w/ strap.

Well made, carries great, draws great, protects the rear sight, and helps keep dirt out of the innards.

However, I now have a unique custom holster of top quality for my G23 from 3Crosses Gunleather. Had I known of them and their Back Country holster I would have went with it. Great protection for a working gun and having met Bob I do not doubt his quality or craftsmanship.

I have the same holster as 257heaven and like it a lot. It is not a fast draw holster but it carries well and is very concealable under an over shirt. It is fairly comfortable even seated in a car.
