Any suggestions for a COMPACT leather holster for a 3.75in Vaquero? As small as possible hopefully. Thanks.

There are many good choices from as many manufacturers. The Tom Threepersons from El Paso Sadlery is a great choice, and serves me well for my short barreled SA revolvers. They can be had, finished from mild to wild.

Here's another, by Zack Davis, built on a thumb-break scabbard pattern. DeSantis makes one similar. Rides very high and tight.

I've the Tom Threepersons for my Blackhawk and like it a lot. The problem comes when sitting in a car or most chairs. If you are going to use an ATV etc. then a tanker or Doc Holiday would be better.

I and some friends have also had good luck with Midway's holster finder. One notable failure which Midway took back with no problem.

That El Paso is nice, but since this holster will take a beating, I would feel bad about ruining such a nice piece. Maybe I need a tough old beater of a holster...

Your requirements just changed. Look at a 15-dollar one size fits all Uncle Mikes.

A beat up quality holster is still the best choice. Not much different than a guy settling for cheap boots just cuz he's gonna beat them up.

If you want a OWB take a look at this:

If you want a cheap beater take a look at LGS or Gun Shows. Two of my LGS have boxes of belts and holsters really cheap and if you can find one that fits you will not mind beating it up. One of the Gun shows here has used holsters.

Generally you get what you pay for or a bit less. I got a real bargain on a Kaytex "retention" holster (free and worth every penny) it fell apart after about 4 months of moderate use.
