I'm thinking of getting a revolver in 327 Federal.

The purpose would be plinking/range use.

I might even use it for Icore.

Not concealed carry as I already have an LCR 327 for that.

In either case I'd get a 4". I want adjustable sights.

Which would you recommend and why?

While the 327 Federal may be perfectly sized for the SP-101, I think the GP-100 is a better range, sport shooting and plinking gun by far. It has a much better trigger and is easier to handle.

I have the 4" .327 SP-101. Considered getting a .327 GP when the most recent batch came out, but have held off. Much as I like the .327, I think it would benefit most from a 6+" barrel, and I think a 6" GP is too large to be much fun carrying around. I like the size of the SP-101 in .327 as compared to the GP, and speedloaders for the 6-shot SP-101 are not a custom affair as they currently are for the 7-shot GP-100 (in .327, don't know about the 7-shot .357s). Trigger in the GP-100 will likely be better/easier to make better than in the SP-101, just as a function of design leverage; if I were looking for a range only gun, I think I would prefer the GP, but I don't feel the need for both a GP-100 and a SP-101 in .327 with the same barrel length.

I would have to agree on the GP being the better platform, not that I dislike the SP guns I have in 327 which includes a 3" drift adjustable sight model from 2008 and a 4" with big Green Dot front sight. I also have 3" & 4" SP101's in 32 H&R.

I just got to shoot the blue 5" half lug in 327 today and it is a sweetheart. I haven't had the 4" GP100's out in a while but they are much easier to hit with than SP's.

I still need the LCR-x and the 6" GP to round out the stable. That may take a while to get done.

For Range, Target or Hunting small game,, GP-100 hands down. It is just a better platform for producing the available accuracy of this cartridge. I am just getting underway with this caliber, but am setting up the 6" HB GP-100 ACRYLICNK has offered in the classifieds, as a small game hunter and some varmint work.

If I even thought I would use it for CC or home defense I would lean towards the SP-101, but would probably still go for the GP-100 only in 4.2" barrel instead. But I'm a big guy and could conceal it, if I were small framed I would go the SP-101 route, but wouldn't be expecting the accuracy the GP-100 would deliver..

GP100, no question. The heft makes the .327 a pleasure to shoot. The SP101 lets you know the .327 is a true magnum.

Also, while I cannot say about the newer production, the original GP100 were finely made. The SP101 version is rough in comparison.

I own both (older style GP100 4") and several other guns chambered in .32hr/.327. IMHO the GP100 or K-framed s&w is the perfect size gun for the .327 in all round use. Now if you need lighter weight and more concealability the sp101 obviously is the choice, especially with the 3" barrel.

I have Single Sevens and the SP101 in this chambering and really like them both. For me, the 3-inch SP101 327 is much more comfortable to shoot with hot loads than my 3-inch SP101 357 with most any load. The Sevens (4-5/8" and Birdshead) are also very comfortable to me. The GP-100 would no doubt be easily managed in 327. Don't forget your earplugs. The 327 has a truly ear-splitting report.

I've been using load data from the Hornady manual and Brian Pearce's article: https://www.loaddata.com/articles/PDF/LD-13%20Pearce%20LR1.pdf There's also a Gunblast article with much hotter 327 loads shot in FA 97 and Blackhawk frame guns that I have not tried, nor intend to, in my guns.

Just picked up my new .327 from Grabagun yesterday. I like how Ruger moved the ugly lawyers "billboard" off the side of the barrel down to the bottom of the ejector housing. Fit & finish is nicely done:
