My GP100 Burris FF3 Mount

I decided to make my own mount for my GP100 since I couldn't find the "look" I wanted with other mounts.





It is polished steel and mounts with a torx 6-48 screw and the cross pin for added strength. The Burris FF3 is .100" above the top of the frame.

I wasn't that hard to make with a milling attachment on my lathe, then some sanding and polishing.
The only problem is now I want to polish the GP to match the mount, but I don't think I will.

I'm more a S&W guy and not used to the numbers visible on the side of the frame.
I've heard some people are worried about S/N's but never understood why.

For those with out the machinist skills, Jack Weigand makes a short, neat Picatinny rail that replaces the rear sight and requires no drilling ot tapping. It will accept any relatively short red dot like the Burris Fastfire or Vortex Venom/viper. It's too short for a C-More.

I looked at the Weigand mount you are referring to before I made mine, it makes the sight higher than I wanted. I like the dot mounted as low as possible.

There is no drilling or tapping to the GP with my mount, it uses the 6-48 screw hole for the rear sight height adjustment and the rear sight cross dowel pin.

I had a Weigand rail and a Burris FF3 on one of my S&W 617's, I replaced the mount with a low profile Allchin mount, it's gets the sight about 1/4" lower.

There is a gentleman that has a post in the classifieds that sells a mount that is very similar to Pinshooter's except it's made of aluminum. He makes it for different optics and Ruger revolvers. $35ish depending on what optic and revolver. I have one being shipped this week.

I have both of those actually. I used the JP mount in the Newegg link to mount a JP red dot to my GP100. When I got a M&P C.O.R.E. I moved the JP to the M&P (since it co-witnessed) and replaced it with a Vortex Venom for the GP100. Since the JP mount isn't compatible with the Vortex, I purchased the mount from PH_Redhawk in the classifieds. Both worked well.

It is called "Vintage Wheel Horse scrap mower bracket steel".

Are these MRDS a rim fire only proposition on these GP revolvers, or would it hold up on a .357? I know they're used on semi autos of various calibers, but would the recoil of the .357 be too much?

I have fastfire 3 sights on my 357 Blackawk and on my Sig Sauer P220 45 ACP with no issues. I suspect the slide action on the 45 is more severe than the recoil effects of the 357 revolver.

And I shoot stout 357 handloads and my Venom handles it fine. Hasn't lost zero after 200 rounds.

That would look cool on that TALO Ruger gp100 with the unfluted cylinder!
