New guy looking at NM Vaquero 357 mag. Model 5159. Question , will these hold up to a steady diet of 357 magnums on the new smaller frame ? Thanks....

That frame is the same size as the Old Model .357 Flattops and the Old Model .357 Blackhawks. Most of them seem to be doing just fine.

Welcome to the Forum.
I have no reason to believe that a .357 'New Vaquero" will not hold up at least as well as an OM .357 BH, which had very similar frame/cylinder dimensions...and happened to have been one of the guns which Ruger's early reputation was built upon.

Thanks for the info. New to learning all about these Ruger single action guns. The more I read the more I see lots of changes they have gone through over the years. I have a lot to learn.. Thanks again...

I bought that exact model last month. You won't be disappointed:

But I changed the grip panels to Altamont "bonded ivory", which I like better:

As stated above it is on the same frame as the OM .357s introduced in '55. Old Models being 3 screw, no transfer-bar medium frame revolvers. As we know Ruger builds their revolvers like a tank, so the .357 was built to 'last' and take anything you can load into it within reason. Then Ruger put the .357 in the large frame when the NM BHs were introduced in '73 which was 'way way' over built and dropped the OM medium frame BH. Anyway point is your medium frame New Vaquero is 'made' for the .357. Go out and shoot it with no worry. Enjoy! Oh and as a side note in Ruger lingo, all Vaqueros are New Models, but there is an original Vaquero (large frame) and the New Vaquero (medium frame).
