Just got mine in .357 (my favorite caliber):

That looks like the hammer on the old vaquero frame. Is this frame the smaller new vaquero size?
Yes it is the current smaller New Vaquero frame, but with the standard Blackhawk contour hammer.

Looking at it closer in this light, my old eyes can see some machining marks on the hammer. They can't be felt with my thumbnail, so must be extremely shallow. Will hand polishing with Flitz do the trick?

Just added some Altamont "bonded ivory" grip panels to the NV. I like them better than the Talo "star" grips (which will be saved in the box):

Hope the picture appears right side up.

Nice gun but I do like the Talo grips better. I changed the hammers on most of my Vaqueros. I'm ignorant as to the reasoning of the high hammers. I also really dig the Eagle checkered wood Gunfighter grips.

Caught the 20% off "sale" at Shop Ruger, so ordered this holster for the .357 (and another for the 5.5" SBH) - not bad quality for the price even though it's not lined. The color is actually a dark tan, almost burgundy, the lighting was poor for my crummy cellphone camera.
