I know this has been covered before but I have a spare .45 ACP cylinder that drops into my 45 LC Blackhawk and seems to lock up and index properly. Do I need to get it checked by a gunsmith or send it to Ruger to get it fitted or is it safe to fire it? Looking for thoughts.

It's generally considered ok as long as it works correctly and the timing is on. Ruger won't do it.

In 99.99% cylinders will interchange and time correctly.

No, you don't need a gunsmith if the following are ok:

The first issue is fore and aft play, called cylinder end play. That should be minimal or no play.

The 2nd thing is to verify that the ACP cylinder is the same diameter as the 45 Colt cyl, which will confirm that it came from the same size frame. A mid frame cyl in a large frame gun will not have chambers aligned with the barrel.

Thanks for the replies. The cylinder play seems to be the same as the 45 LC cylinder and the chambers line up so it looks to be safe. I will shoot it and see how accurate it is.
