I have been called many things but now I feel like I am becoming BirdHeaded in my older age :) I have always been attracted to the grip and the look. I found a pair of new model frames a couple of months ago and then just recently picked up one for an old model.

First up is the Old Model .41 Mag. Then a group pic with a New Model Flat Top .44 Spec, Old Model .41 Mag and a New Model .22 Single Six.

I would like to see Ruger make some like these. I suppose the Ruger style probably can be "slid" up on heavy recoil where the hump type above the web of your hand wont let them in the same fashion on mine.. The first picture is "Thunderer" made by Uberti for Cimmeron, the 2nd is a Colt Lighting and the third is a Colt 1878 DA army.

There is a company that makes thunderer style grip frames for Rugers. I believe it is NC Ordinance or something close to that in name. I found them by google searching for Ruger Thunderer grip frame. In fact, I had one for an old model a couple of years ago but let it slip away.

After taking measurements of my Cimarron Lightening birdshead, I concluded it would be a fairly simple modification to fit it to a Ruger. Weld to fill the front trigger guard screw hole and re-drill.
