Hi Guys,
Got a blackbird grip for a project but the grip has a scratch. How can I fix this without making it worse?

Any ideas?

How deep is the scratch? If it isnt too deep , think like an auto body fix.

Scuff up the area lightly around the scratch. Play with some stain colors to match the grips. Tape off the grips leaving the scratch open. Spray a couple coats of poly. Sand lightly to blend it in with 600 grit. And buff it out. Ive done this on rifle stocks and it works pretty good but it is tedious work and one needs to go light with the touch and take your time.

Here she is.

I like the look and it is bigger than I thought it would be.

Those grips are made of micarta ,if sold by Ruger, the color goes all the way through. Sanding the scratch out with fine (320 or 400 grit) wet or dry paper and further sanding with finer grits up to 600 grit and polishing using buffing compound. No finish needed other than a light coat of automotive or furniture wax to finish off the job.

Thanks guys. Not sure what I'll try yet but they will be mine. Most of my stuff is scratched or dented. (used)
