I have never used "The Blue Book" but does it really indicate $5,500???????

That's the figure the seller is giving.

That red insert is not factory & detracts from the collector value.
Now, my "Blue Book" is a 34th edition and claims 230 made & a 100% example is worth $2850.00.
My RENE guide says $4100.00 for a minty gun.

I was being sarcastic with my "letter" question. .....Point being that the gun in question got devalued a lot, the moment it was done.

This Old 3 Screw is factory original. It does not have the transfer bar installed nor a red insert on the front site. My research indicates there were only 166 Old 3 screw Brass Frame .41 mags manufactured with the 6 1/2 inch barrel. Also, according to RENE, the value for this model is around $2,800.00.

The gun pictured in the ad posted street by has the red insert front sight. There is not a link to the ad by the OP. The one in the link by street is not factory. It was my mistake of not looking at the two different auctions. I just assumed street did a link to the OP's gun.
And according to the RENE, there were approximately 210 total production brass framed 41 mag old models made. The serial number range is 40-18080 to 40-22214. And according to the Dougan book on brass framed guns, a total of 227 guns will letter. Of those, 61 guns letter as BKH-41B & 166 of the BKH-42B guns letter.
I hope this clears up any confusion on my part.

Are we sure the insert is not factory? I own a 1974 NM Blackhawk that came with insert and also a SS NM Blackhawk 1988 also with the same insert. Both guns purchase new and have never been to a gunsmith.
