Hi, new to the forum. I'm interested in finding a half lug gp 100. The 1754 match champion seems to get mixed reviews online, and I've found the kgp-840 but it doesn't have a rear sight, just a notch in the frame. What other models are there that I should look at? Thanks.

If you want an adjustable rear sight at one time Ruger made 1/2 lugs in 6" stainless and maybe blue, don't know. The other half lugs were 3 and 4" fixed rear sight guns. All had the round barrel and not the slab side of the Match Champion. If you desire a shorter barrel they can be cut as on one of the boards someone posted a pic of a 3.25" barrel GP created by Ahlmann's in Minnesota with an adjustable rear sight.

There were a fair number of half-lug blue 6" GPs made in the late '80s and early '90s. Then they seem to have gone into other configurations and lost these. They are very nice and I agree that if you want one, Ahlmans does nice and economical work. Or have them "half-lug" a current stainless 6" and save the cost of rebluing.

Do you know the specific model numbers? I've been looking at gunbroker but haven't seen any. 4" or 6" is what I'd like.

Note about barrel length The ruger website states that their gp 140 series revolvers have 4.20" barrels, not excactly 4".
Note about grips From 2009 / 2010 The gp 100 revolvers are delivered with Houghe ruger grips not the ruger wood and rubber combination grips.

There are several distributors exclusives including som 5" barrel variations from Davidesons.

There are also 2 other catalog numbers I would imagine for the 3" bbl. adjustable sighted .357 mag and .38 Special stainless guns. I do not know what they are, though.

The list isn't comprehensive but it's a great start. I'm leaning towards the GP/KGP-160. Basically a KGP-140 would be perfect if it existed.

I have the gpf-340 that I special ordered over ten years ago. It is one sweet shooting half lug .357. Very well balanced and pleasant to carry.

That's to meet Canadian regulations which prohibit barrel lengths of less than 105 mm (4.13")

"Yes that's perfect. Was that production or was the barrel chopped?"

I assumed chopped. Imagine many a decent gunsmith could do such a job. 2 that come to mind are Altmann's in MN and Dave Clements. Clements will do the milling necessary to retain the stock interchangeable Ruger front sight. The gun is not mine but found it online.
