Having some fun with Ruger's big cousin..!

The BFR .45-70 ! Recently I shortened the barrel on my 7.5 version down to 5.2 inches.
Makes it a bit easier to handle from my shoulder holster and it is about 1/4 inch shorter than my SBH
Hunter.
So did a little ballistics test to see if it still has some punch, using Hornady 325 gr. Lever ammo.
I think it has a plenty! I call it my Pit Bull BFR!

Guns like this,,, I refer to as "hand cannons!" Nice!

Given the results of my water jug test,how would it compare to ballistic gelatin?
The Hornady Flex Tip seems to give better expansion than the other OTS .45-70 rifle ammo.
I think a bullet designed for more expansion at lower velocity would work well out of this gun.
Next time out,I will run a few through my chrony.

I like big cousins also. I have the 45/70 in a contender, and a pair of S$W 500's.. 6 1/2 inch and the 8 incher..

Nice collection! Looks like the evolution of the revolver collection!

This past Nov. I got the chance to shoot S&W's 500mag. It was a nice shooting gun. But it didn't kick nothing like that.
That's just Bad Ass Brutal.
Try some 405grs out of that. Lol

Yeah, its my little revolver family.. and it keeps growing somehow, that next to the bottom one, an SP101 just followed me home on Sunday! :mrgreen:

Unfortunately at work I cant get on you tube to see the results. Has to be a fun gun. You need a 45/70 long gun to compliment the BFR.

Well to give you an idea, that one round totaled my water box...split it in half including a 4 ft. 2x10 and the bottom 1x10 the jugs were sitting on. The bullet was found in the 8th one gallon water jug and almost punched thru the other side.
Hate to get hit in the chest with that round!

No hiding behind trash cans with someone shooting that baby at you. Brick walls either.
That would work good on those thick skulled criminals. Lol
