I just acquired a preowned Ruger .44 cal convertable, New Model Blackhawk. The cylinder is marked as .44 REMINGTON MAGNUM. It has a 7-1/2 barrel and is about 90%+. The serial number is 87-00958.

Can someone tell me about year of mfg. and since it is a convertible, did an extra cylinder come with it?

Thanks to anyone who can help me.

You can look up year of manufacture on Rugers web sight, and if it is a convertible it would have come with another cylinder.

Made late 1997...

Super Blackhawk did not come as a 'convertible'...

You can also fire ,44SPCL through a .44 Mag, but as pointed out a convertible model comes with two cylinders and will either be .45 Colt/.45ACP or .357Mag/9mm, and neither of which is a 'Super Blackhawk'...

ADDING:

Never say never with a Marlin or a Ruger...

I am now seeing evidence that there were a limited number of .44mag/.44-40 Supers made in 1990 for Jerry's Sports...

Serial is too late for one of those...

I assume your gun has the frame roll marked "RUGER .44 CAL. CONVERTIBLE NEW MODEL BLACKHAWK". If so then most of the 1200 or so guns made were convertibles, .44 Mag. and 44-40. It seems that Ruger ran out of 44-40 cylinders and shipped a few guns with that roll marking with only the .44 Mag. cylinder. So that being said only a letter from Ruger will tell if your gun was shipped as a convertible.

All information comes from the RENE!!!!!

Yeah, what Street said. Find out from Ruger if it was only shipped with one cylinder.

Your serial number 87-00958 and is in the special serial range of 87-00001 to 87-01219 that were convertibles made in 1990-91 exclusively for Jerry's Sports Ctr with two cylinders.
If shipped with just the one 44 Mag cylinder it's an extremely rare gun. Up to 50 are estimated to have been assembled as over-run guns with only the 44 Mag cyl. and sold as standard 44 Mags but only two are known so far and they are numbered higher than the serial number range shown above that shipped to Jerry's. But he didn't take all 1219 guns, he took just less than 1200.

Because your number is in the above range of those shipped as convertibles, it's more likely the 44-40 cylinder has been separated from the gun. But you never know, it could be one of the 48 or so still unknown.

Did you receive the original box with the gun?
