Just saw these on GB's and was wondering if anybody out there has tried one? A drop in 8 shot cylinder for SS's.

It would need a shorter pawl, to my line of thinking. I've always wondered why they weren't done with more than six shots. There is enough material in the cylinder to do it.

Description for Item # 196637439

Ruger eight shot 22LR or 22Mag. replacement single six cylinders. These are drop in cylinders with no modification necessary. Borchardt Rifle Corp. has been producing Ruger replacement cylinders for 10 years. The 8 shot cylinders are a new item. Free Shipping Any questions call (575) 535-2923 or visit our new web site at brcrifles.com. Use web search not your search engine for now.

I was always under the impression cylinders have to be fitted, in the discription the seller claims they are " Drop In " not sure about that part. 8 shot sure would be nice. ps

Yeah, it is quite frequently necessary to "trim" the front of the gas ring to install a non-original cylinder in a Single-Six . . . and many are too short, as well.

And I seriously wonder about the pawl question, too.

Wouldn't the gun then become a "Single-Eight"? I like the idea of an 8-rd cylinder. I imagine they'll drop in OK, but I have questions about the timing. Do these cylinders come with a pawl made to their specs?

The manufacturer seems to do a lot of specialty design work with firearms. Here is a link:

The new cylinder seems to be a normal item for them.

I have no personal experience with this firm.

TRADITION...................That is why they didn't make a 8 shot. High Standard made a single action looking -- double action 9 shot revolver. It was a very good piece. S&W has a few years back started making a 10 shot in thier 617. The High Standard just didn't sell, although a much better idea than a single action six shot. TRADITION is why Rugers have sold gobs of them.

It wouldn't be a "SIX GUN" anymore. Whoever heard of a eight gun or a 9 or 10 gun either. It is part of the American West TRADITION.

I have a US Firearms 12/22. I haven't had it all that long, so I haven't even shot it yet. As you know their fit and finish are second to none, and it is absolutly georgous.

H & R Model 999 was a 9-shot, DA, top-break, plain-barrelled .22 revolver. (The more intricate and more common "Sportsman" 999 had a ribbed barrel and curly triggerguard and wood (instead of plastic) grips, as well.)
My Father had one and as a teenager I took it without his knowlege on a hunting trip, on which the car was broken into and the gun stolen. I never told him, and presume he thought it stolen years later when his home was burglarized.
Not knowing the serial number, I never reported it. I regret it to this day, not only for the lost gun, but for the lost memorabilia of my Dad.

I`d just love to have a mag cylinder for my Bisley Single Six if it worked and doesn`t void any warranty

...ah Ruger currently makes a ton of 5-shot SP-101's and quite a few 7-shot GP-100's (327) and a bunch of 8-shot New Model Blackhawks (327) as well as the traditional SIX-SHOOTERS. :D :D

...but I'm no expert, Jimbo

Mighty interesting but I wonder if they really do drop in and how they tackle whatever timing issues may arise.

I'm what you may consider a traditionalist but got no issue with single action .22's that hold more than six rounds. As long as they don't have more than six flutes. Any more or less than six flutes just looks wrong to me. Which is why I love my USFA 12/22. 12 shots, six flutes.
