Shouldn't you remove the three from the barrel before you worry about replacing the sights?

If the rear sight is fixed only the front sight can be replaced. XS sights makes front sights as do several other manufacturers. As noted an adjustable rear sight can be added but that is somewhat expensive with Mepro offering an adjustable, tritium rear. Alternatively, it might be possible to adapt Novak sights from a Wiley Clapp.

You got me. I did not proof read my post. I am about to get a GP100 in either the 4.2 inch or 3 inch barrel. I have not held a GP 100 in the 3 inch barrel, only the 4.2 and 6 inch. I did not like the one with the 6 inch barrel. I saw the 3 inch version had fixed sights. I did not know if this meant that I could replaced the sights or not. I have seen videos where the sights were replaced. But they were always something other than the 3 inch version. I am thinking about using this for home defense , so I may want to upgrade the sights.

You should be able to find aftermarket sights for the 3" without a lot of trouble. You might have to go with a sight for a SP101 (possibly with slight modifications) due to how it is pinned in rather than being dovetailed.

You did not specify caliber, so I assume you are wanting a 357/38. If so, look at the #1774 model. It's a 2.5 inch, 7 shot, with adjustable sights. I comes with a fiber optic front sight that could be easily replaced with a night sight. It seems to be the best of all choices, 357, 7 shot, and good sights. Lipseys has many in stock. The 3 inch GPs were (are?) available in either fixed or adjustable sites. I think I had a 38 Special 3 inch one with adjustable.

At one time Ruger made a 3" adjustable sighted .357 GP. Not too many exist from what I can gather. A couple of years ago Ruger made the same configuration in .38 SP in larger numbers. Originally, Ruger also made the 3" fixed sight model in a 1/2 shroud configuration in .38 and .357. Later, a 3" full shroud was offered and still is. Ruger offers a 2.5" .357 adjustable sighted model in a 7 shot version. As noted some have had problems getting certain ammo to fit due to rim interference. Bowen, also makes a rear sight that is adjustable for the GP's with several blade configurations.

I believe the front sight on 3" fixed sight models is slightly taller than the SP with the latter at .155" all and the GP at .185". Although not listed on their website XS makes a front sight for these with tritium. Here is a link to XS sights for the GP adjustable:

and Mepro

and Novaks which perhaps could be adapted to a fixed sight 3"

Called a wonderful local dealer this morning I highly recommend (Cheek Brothers Trading Post in Scottsville, KY--see their Facebook site if interested!) and turns out I just missed a .38 Special stainless 3 incher that he sold yesterday AND, a 4 inch blue to the same fella. Just my luck! I posted elsewhere about my new wish for a three inch GP100. And good things to you with seeking new sights! Do you enjoy your shorty GP? I wish for one for my CCW rotation. Don.

While there are many options for the adjustable sights for the GP the 3in has very few.

I'm really only familiar with the ones from Gemini, I've been eyeing the gold bead for some years now.

If you tap onto the link you wI'll see that Ruger has used two different sized sights on the 3in.
