I stripped it down to the bare frame and attacked it with Dawn soap and a toothbrush. It's amazing how much crud can accumulate in the checkering. I need to do this every six months or so. She looks and feels like a brand new pistol again!
I've read of shooters removing wooden grips, etc. and putting the entire gun in the dishwasher (top rack only). Gets it spotless but don't EVER let your wife find out.
