Scope mount for P89

I have finally admitted that I can no longer shoot my P89 in bulls eye matches with open sights.
Research indicates there used to be a scope mount from B Square and one from Aim Point. Neither required any gunsmithing.
So...Would anyone happen to have one of those old mounts sitting around collecting dust that they'd like to sell?

I would have said you were never going to find one but here are two and there is a third on ebay but it was crazy priced.

Solid mount, I like mine...

Roy...... I assume that even tho it says P85 that it should work for his P89 as well?? Do you have pics of that mounted on yours?

I was going to ask for a picture as well. I'm a bit challenged to figure out how it mounts from just seeing one in the package.

I also sent questions to both Ebay sellers asking if it would fit a P89.
I'll probably take a chance and buy one even if they don't respond by tomorrow morning.

Thanks for the Ebay links. I tried to search there but obviously did not use the proper search string to locate them.

I ordered one from Ebay. $26.90 including shipping.

Ruger Model P85 - B Square #12880 Blue Scope Mount

I'll try to post a picture when it is installed on my P89, assuming of course that it fits.
Thanks again for your help.

It goes over the slide, surrounds it and "hangs" on the slide stop shaft. Then the round lobe looking deal is adjusted to press against the trigger guard. I have a lot of "Barbie clothes" for the P-series as I "collect" them but currently this is in a drawer not installed. It should fit the 85 and 89 models both. It would really fit more models but the slide stop was changed on the 93,94 models so I don't thing it will work.

I have been back in court fighting for my kids and pistols have not been in my normal rotation. Someday I'll open the safe and tinker some more but taking a break for now.

I think for the money you can't go wrong and very lucky to find this obsolete mount. I almost bought a second one for myself but lawyer bills will be coming.

Keep the P-guns alive!!

The P85 scope mount, B Square model #12880 , arrived yesterday.
It fits the P89 perfectly.

The installation was fairly simple, but the instructions really were lacking. A picture of the mount on a P85 would have made it easier. The only tricky part was lifting the slide stop retaining spring to get the new slide stop to lock in place.
Metal on metal meant scrapes on my P89 were going to occur if I tried to fit it incorrectly.
As it is, the hold screws on the mount will scrape up the front of the trigger guard and underside of the receiver. Not an issue for me, but I've read many posts here (and elsewhere) from folks that apparently can't stand scratches on their guns for any reason.

The iron sights can still be used, though not for me which is why I wanted this mount.

The ejection port appears clear, but I have a micro red dot on order to eliminate any possible issues, and to also lighten the gun a bit.

There's plenty of room around the slide so no contact with the slide is not a problem.

Thanks again for the info. :D

Finally had a chance to try it at the range yesterday.
SWEEEEET! :)
This is exactly what I was hoping for.
I will be able to use the P89 in bullseye matches later this summer.
The large red dot shown in my earlier pictures will be replaced with a smaller, lighter, micro red dot unit.
Thanks again for the info.

A bit late to help but here is another possibility:
http://www.egwguns.com/pistol-scope-mounts/docter-sight-mount-for-ruger-auto-mk-1-mk-2-mk-3-mk-4-p85-p90/

These are available for a large range of red dot models.

This and the J-Point mount shown above are smaller, lighter and easier to install than the B-Square type. Their only negative is that the red dot reciprocates with the slide so you better buy a rugged red dot. Several current ones are more than up to the abuse.

Thanks 22/45 and Elric. I'll check them both out.

The B Square mount didn't hold up. It basically destroyed itself, and a mag, after about 20 rounds.
The longer slide release pin that came with the mount bent and caused the slide to jam after smashing the mag lips.
It looked like a great solution, but that pin just was not strong enough.
Now, I did put it on a P89 and it was clearly marked as a P85 mount so I won't fault the mount or B Square.
I also used factory 115 gr ammo, so no high powered or reloaded rounds.
