I'm finding myself rather impressed with the RAP 45.

Its been a long time since I've posted on this forum. I used to be a P Series nut with a P90, P97, and a couple P95s. Then I lost interest when i got into the CZ75, then Sig Sauer, then XD, and finally went full retard with Glock.

Well. A few weeks ago I went to a small gun show where there was a vendor that was selling guns from someones estate. I picked up a Glock 21 (which I've been searching a long time for) for a great price, and then the next day this Ruger American for $320

Its missing the small back strap and all the papers. But for the price I wasn't concerned. I thought I'd just shoot it a couple times to try it out, and then sell or trade it off. I could at least get my money back.

But after getting back from the second range trip with it I don't think I can part with it. The first time I wasn't to impressed. It shot well but not as well as the G21. This time (after some dryfire practice). They both were punching the same little ragged holes in the target. But the RAP does it with a much better ergonomic grip.

Now I got to figure out what other gun to sell to make up for my loss. :(

I'd keep the RAP and G21 both. I'd keep my other guns too. I've been in a similar position once and wish I'd have kept both guns. Learn from my mistake and don't be doomed to repeat it.

Don't worry. I'm definitely keeping the G21. I was just thinking that there is a old milsurp or sporting rifle lying around and collecting dust that could go to a better home.

I like my RAP 9's trigger better than any Glock I've owned.

I'm not one to modify trigger if I can help it, so most have been
5.5 pounds or more.

I shot my new Ruger American 9mm against my XD Mod 2 Service Model.

On the same target. using Federal AM eagle 9mm.

First 8 rounds of 9mm into the target was head shots with the Mod 2 @15 yards.

This gun has the best of any plastic Springer I 've owned, and it shows it.

I found that It shot like normal, that is a small cluster of shots in the head.

It seems like you don't have super control over the trigger, but it delivers
precise shots, anyways!

I actually shot this group better than I normally do with the Service that
I shoot every week, or every other week if possible.

Next up was with the Ruger 9A.

8-shots and a POA above the Mod 2 group.

I'd never shot this pistol before, but didn't do too
bad as I was able to deliver the shots in a nice group, yet
not as tight as that of the Springfield.

Perhaps, I have more time with the MOD 2?

The Ruger's trigger seemed stiffer, but I had no problem
with reset on either 9mm.

Moving onto COM shots..the MOD 2 slung them right in there@ 20
yards, with once again.. the Ruger lacking slightly behind.

I'm usually one for Compact or Sub-Compact pistols..so how
I managed to wind up with two Sevice sized 9mms, I don't know.

I'd say that for those of you who own the Service Models,..I'm not
so sure that the 5 inch Tactical that I want when the come out
in FDE, will be a better shooter?

I'll sell my XD-S .45 someday, and hopefully rat-hole the $$ to get that
eventual FDE Tac.

Until then, I'll enjoy the superb accuracy my Service Model delivers!

Clarkston. I think you hit the nail on the head. I've been shooting Glocks for quite a while and am used to them. Which is why I can shoot the G21 better then the RAP. Even with the worse trigger of the two and a cinder block of a grip. If I shot the RAP solely for a while things would probably go the other way.

I have a HS2000. Which is what the XD9 was called before Springfield Armoury bought the import rights and made the cosmetic changes and renamed them Xtreme Duty.

The damn thing puts the Energizer Bunny to shame. Was made in 1999 and was very well used when I got it in 08. I put hundreds and hundreds of rounds though it and I'm still waiting for it to choke up on me. Very good guns.

I don't know about the Mod 2. But my RAP and the HS have sort of a simular trigger feel. Both have a bit of take up, and a long reset. But the HS has a lighter trigger, and the RAP has less over travel.

Iadded Talong grips to my RAP 9mm today.

They had 3 sizes, and I thought that the RAP pistols came with the
small backstrap installed.

Seems that it is the medium one.

After some fiddling with the backstraps it turned out that
the medium fits me the best.

The size Small talons seem to fit nicely.

No more polygon grip for me, but I've never had any thumb or web of my hand issues
to date.

Might show up with my Double Tap or other hotter ammo.

This Rap 9mm makes a fine companion to my Ruger rifles and
pistols..

I do belive that with some more time behind the trigger..
it will be equal in accuracy to my MOD 2, CZs and other 9mms.

If I had the money, I'd buy a RAP .45 tomorrow morning!

shot my RAP 9mm again.

I'm still not as accurate with it at the same 15 yards (and closer) with
same FMJ or TAC-XP ammo.

As my MOD 2 Service Model.

Getting some trigger buzz or sting with it's flattter trigger like I do with
a Glock .40 or 10mm.

For those of you with both pistols..is the .45 more accurate?

Thanks for the info DNS. Much appreciated.

CLARSTON.I am by no means an expert shot, but I find that I have shot every 45acp handgun I've owned better then ones in 9mm. I don't know why but I just do. Probably just be me . I have thought of dumping the 9s and sticking with 45. But then I start looking at the price difference in ammo and reloading components and decide its not that big of a deal.

If you have a range that rents handguns, try out a couple different brands of 45s and see how you do.

But I think your RAP (And most other handguns) is probably more accurate the shooter is. So just keep practicing.

One drawback I've found about the RAP is it won't work with 200 gr SWC bullets. Which is sad because I have a heap load of reloads with that bullet.

Thanks, I no longer reload and stick to major brand 230 grain .45 ACP for practice
and Double Tap for carry.

I'm just thinking that I should have waited and bought the .45 ACP version.

Maybe after I sell my XD-S .45 and my SP-101, I might do such.

At this point in my life I believe that I can do the majority of my handgunning
with 9mm and .45 ACP and not have to buy .38/357 Magnum ammo.
