I now see a couple of new Ruger pistols listed as the Ruger American pistol, a 9mm(#8605) and a .45(#8615). The 9mm is a 17 shot and the .45 is a 10 shot. No other data is available. Sounds like SR style magazines. I guess we'll have to wait. Bob!! 8)

And here I was ready to part with some Benjis for a SR45c. Ah well. Interesting gun. I do not find it aesthetically pleasing at all, but perhaps it will grow on me. [and it shouldn't matter anyways....if the gun performs]

I do like the ambi controls though. There is only one pin that I see above the mag release. Modular? Interested to hear all of the bells and whistles from Ruger. New military trials are coming...maybe Ruger is positioning.

Pretty sure this is where the OP found the info:

Seems a bit on the heavy side at 30+ oz. Might be a nice offering in comparison to the SR series.

Maybe if its worth a darn he will like it!!! And then he'll have to wait in line like the rest of us fanbois. Or pay that "1st" year premium we have seen lately.

It did not occur to me earlier to check the price. The American pistol is $15(dealer cost) higher than a SR9 or SR45. My take on the American is more of a professional grade(read Glock or Sig) look or style for LE or Govt. sales. I'm sure Ruger's ad guys will put it more efficiently. Bob!!

I am wondering if these pistols have magazine disconnect safeties. If they don't I might be interested in one.

They do not have MD or LCI from what I have seen. One more day to the "official" release.

The interchangeable grip shell is a nice touch, better than the silly little rubber insert. I hope they come with a different firing mechanism than the SR's do.

Pretty good preliminary take on it here:

Ugly as sin, but probably has appeal to those who get in real live gun fights regularly. Combat competition shooters too.

Those are rough looking. Kinda remind me of a early 70's Ford Maverick.

Gonna take a few coats of Duracoat. Then... still. UG.

But, the Walther P99 sells, so this may have a chance.

Looks like the front of the slide and frame borrow some of the grace and delicacy of the Hi-Point.

I like the looks of it. Interesting that they have 9mm and .45, but no .40 (yet). It's gonna be compared to the M&P because it has a lot in common, at least externally.

Takedown is the same as my M&P, without the step of having to stick a pen or pick down into the mag well to flip a lever.

Grip panel interchangeability is a good thing, like the M&P, but, unlike the M&P, requires a tool (#10 Torx according to the owner's manual that is on that link). This is not that big a deal, as grip swaps aren't, in the long run, something most people will do on a regular basis (at least in the field). Odd thing is that the manual says to remove the slide in order to change the grip panel. Can't see why from the illustrations.

Definitely no mag disconnect, if you believe the printing on the side of the pistol ("will fire with magazine removed").
